Major Milestones
or
What Lead Up to Me Being Me
(an abridged timeline)

Age 10 - watched Diva, thus a love for independent movies was born

Age 11 - heard The Specials for the first time, stopped tuning in to Casey Kasem's top 40

Age 13 - separated from normal kids, got bussed to high school (and ridiculed by freshmen), went through frequent academic "testing", developed "am I weird?" issues, took to wearing Frankie Say t-shirts (rare mail-order ones from England, I need everyone to know that)

Age 15 - watched Picnic at Hanging Rock, read Catcher in the Rye, started brooding, shopped for clothes at thrift stores, experienced first heartbreak, listened to The Cure and The Smiths non-stop

Age 18 - off to college; dabbled in film, communication, studio art, art history, literature and journalism; met many smart people and smarmy male professors; developed inferiority issues; took to shoplifting (lasted for one year, never got busted)

Age 21 - settled on philosophy just to get it over with, knew more about Wittgenstein than any normal person should

Age 23 - got first real job with company car and expense account (woo hoo!), traveled a lot, met smarmy older men, climbed the corporate ladder fast, feigned interest in golf and fishing

Age 25 - met Mick randomly while standing on Hollywood Blvd., Mick left for a year-long trip around the world after only one phone conversation but promised to call when he got back

Age 26 - completely forgot who Mick was when he called back, went on blind date with Mick, backpacked throughout Europe solo

Age 28 - moved in with Mick, got sick of airports; got sick of carrying tools; got sick of setting up convention booths; got sick of power point presentations; got sick of "VARs," "distribution channels," and "capturing mindshare;" got sick of looking at grown men in tasseled shoes and dainty socks; felt youth slipping away; quit job

Age 29 - read Wired and Po Bronson, got "cool" job at a dot com, wore jeans to work, met many smart people, rode VC money until it ran out, collected unemployment for the first and last time, attended Landmark Forum, changed priorities

Age 31 - held salaried job for the last time, bought first investment property, discovered blogs

Age 33 - married Mick

Age 34 - finished coding this damn website
